After a week of preview and private event, finally last saturday Milan’s Fondazione Prada opened its gate to the public. The space is located in Largo Isarco and born from the restructuring of a 19 thousand meters area built in the early ‘900 and used as a distillery. The severe architectural project it was entrusted to archistar Rem Koolhaas and its famous achitects studio OMA. Distinctive features of the project are the main building, clad in lace.like metal, and the “haunted house”, a four-story tower so nemed by Prada and Koolhaas, painted in 24-carat golden leaf.
The amazing Foundation’s Cafeteria “Bar Luce” is designed by director movie Wes Anderson and it’s ispired by artistic italian culture of 50s and 60s. Anderson used furnished with formica tables in fifties color, candy jars, custom-made pinball machines themed after his movies, and a jukebox stocked with fifty and sixty italian crooners, creates its own playfull happy atmosphere…it seems to make a leap in time!
The ambitious project confirms Miuccia Prada as undisputated queen of meeting places around contemporary art in Italy and, as always, she manages to ispire new interpretations around concept of beauty. She’s the One!
