Also this year Ventura Lambrate district was of the most interesting areas, both for the exhibition spaces that for design research. With my pleasant surprise I found many Italian studies, something that had not occurred previous years where the presence of Italian designers was very low. I’m so happy about this! and then start with an amazing italian brand. Today I show you the first part of the companies I selected and I liked more, I hope you enjoy!
Giopato&Coombes is an Italy based studio formed by italian designer Cristina Giopato and english architect Christopher Coombes. The design duo working in interdisciplinary fields, from interiors and design to graphics and production, because interdisciplinarity is the fuel that generates creative development. They designed furnitures for many companies leader such as Living Divani, Miniforms, Lema, Kenzo, Fiam Italia and others. This year presented at Fuorisalone their first lights collection called “Editions”. The models are very cool and combine Italian craftsmanship with contemporary style.
- The handblown Murano glass LED lamps “I Flauti” combines tradition and technology in search for a new equilibrium between innovation and its context. The lamps are made of hand blown glass and turned brass, both high quality materials and processes. In contrast the custom designed led light source, that shines upwards through the lamp and downwards, is held within a hand turned brass ring, in an effortless display of minimal precision that hides all the necessary and intricate detailing of a suspension lamp.
- The “Bolle” lamp is inspired by the lightness of soap bubbles as a metaphor for the emptiness of light. Bolle is a suspension lamp in transparent glass, where the illuminating brass bulb is suspending between the spheres, giving light to not only the space but also the curved surfaces, multiplying reflections to amplify the magical effect.
Aparentment is a design and photography studio from Barcelona founded by Josep Vila Capdevila. I loved their “Marblelous” collection composed by eclectic objects and accessories. Really very funny! Here their website where you can find others interesting projects.
Wendy Legro and Maarten Collignon are the founders of Studio WM, a design studio based in Rotterdam. Their work varies from furniture to lighting, from scent diffusers to interactive mirrors. All with great attention to detail and an intuitive approach to the sensorial experience. Scent, touch and sound are in harmony with the physical product striving to create sensitive and poetical design. I fell in love with pieces made with dicroic glass that shows a gradual transition from mirror to lamp through a simple touch. The filtered glass can both reflect and transmit light depending on the light intensity coming from behind. Reflections visible in the mirror are filtered with a glow of two contrasting colours. As a lamp, white light is being separated into various soft colour tones, producing an ambient light in the room. Minimal design and dreamy aesthetic together are perfect!
The Label/Breed is a project focused on creating beneficial collaborations between Dutch designers and manufacturers, and promoting the development of innovative interior objects for a changing world. At Ventura Lambrate presented “Collection 1.00″on which various designers have exhibited their products, results of collaboration with manufacturing industry.
- Chris Kabel has designed a sloping, smooth bench made of glazed bricks materials. The bricks slide together and lock, allowing you to combine benches to create fantastic shapes.
- Demakersvan have combined contemporary and traditional iron casting production techniques to create a set of lamps inspired by Children’s top toy.
- Christien Meindertsma, known for its ottoman wool woven, has designed an innovative line of product using wool and flax combined with bioplastic material.
Italian designer Roberto Sironi presented at Fuorisalone his first collection of ceramic objects. After his studies he has worked with different design studios where he has developed his design approach.
Roberto considers each project as a story, developed through research that involves different aspects, from rituals and anthropological references to historical memory, designing with a contemporary approach always appropriate to the context.
He draws with the ambition to reveal the expressive potential of each material chosen, through a synthetic and minimal style, trying to reveal the poetry of the objects.
- Cascina is a series of storage pots in Lombard Terracotta (Italy) that feature an exterior of rawness and tactile experience combined with the extraordinary aesthetic of this material, characterized by rich veins.
- Molecular Matter a tableware collection designed to show the essence of molecular cuisine, enhancing the presentation of shapes, colours and taste, creating new supports for foams, spherifications, gelifications, and caramelizations. It was realized with support of Michelin star chef Daniel Facen.
- Buccheri is a collection of three vases made with a technique created 8,000 years ago by the Etruscans. Bucchero is a clay that is baked at 900°C in a steel box where a chemical reaction occurs due to a reduction of oxygen and charcoal smoke present in the chamber of the oven. This process gives the vases their typical black colour with silvery shades. Buccheri Vases are hand carved with special tools made in boxwood.
Stay tuned for the second part with the best of Ventura Lambrate I’ll post next week and have a great weekend!
